Each left and right SCIENCE Sensor Insole contains pressure sensors and a gyroscope sensor. More detailed information can be found in the specifications section below.
16 Pressure Sensors
Sensor insole outline and sensor positions are given in a common coordinate system. The orientation of the coordinate systems is different for left and right sides.
Position of the gyroscope sensor is the origin of the coordinate system. Orientation of coordinate system is different for left and right sides. The sensor data contains 3 dimensions in space for acceleration and angular rate data.

Any combination of channels can be configured in the SCIENCE Mobile App. The standard setups are pre-configured channels setups for user convenience.

The operation modes Live and Record can be software-selected in the Moticon SCIENCE Mobile App. The Preview mode is always on when connected to a phone. The Transmit mode is activated automatically when data is transmitted.
Activity triggered recording mode. Recording is only on when users are active. Internal firmware controls start/stop of recording automatically. No phone is required.
For longterm gait monitoring
Automatic shut down into power safe mode when sensor insole is not in use. No hardware switches are used.
No user interaction for turning on/off required
Smart Recording is currently undergoing an R&D update from previous sensor insole generation. Estimated availability is 10/2019.
Firmware of the sensor insoles can be updated wirelessly using the Moticon SCIENCE Mobile App.
Firmware runs a file management system on the on-board memory of the sensor insole. Measurements can be selected, deleted and transmitted individually using the Moticon SCIENCE Mobile App.
The firmware continuously checks the system status and transmits status information. Status information includes:
1. OK/NOK pressure sensors 1-16
3. Active time
4. Miscelaneous (firmware version, serial number, size, side)
The firmware detecs the battery charge status of the inserted coin cell batteries. The charge status is transmitted to the Moticon SCIENCE Mobile App.

Battery Form Factor
Nominal operating voltage must be 3.7 V. The use of lower voltage, non-rechargeable coin cell batteries type CR2032 or rechargeable coin cell batteries type ML2032 will cause malfunction.
